What is Original Medicare?
Original Medicare is coverage managed by the Federal Government, and is comprised of Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance). For each part, you have your choice of doctors, hospitals and other providers that accept Medicare, and there is generally a cost associated with each service.
The plan options include:
- Medicare Part A: Helps cover in-patient and stays in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities, hospice care services and home health care services. To qualify for Medicare Part A, you or your spouse must have worked and paid Medicare premiums for a minimum of ten years.
- Medicare Part B: Helps cover out-patient medical care such as therapy, doctor visits and other medical procedures not covered by Medicare Part A. Medicare Part B is purchased as a Medicare Supplement and is paid for by monthly premium payments that can be deducted from your Social Security Check.
