What is Medicare?

Medicare is a health insurance plan for people who are age 65 or older, or who have been disabled for more than 24 months. This is a health plan that is managed by the Federal Government through the Department of Health and Human Services within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Medicare is the most widely used health insurance program managed by the Federal Government, serving nearly 50 million people.

There are four main parts to Medicare and only three parts can be used at one time. They include:

  1. Medicare Part A: Hospital Insurance
  2. Medicare Part B: Medical Insurance
  3. Medicare Part C: Medicare Advantage Plans
  4. Medicare Part D: Prescription Drug Coverage
