What is Medicare Advantage?
Medicare Advantage is Part C and offers all of the benefits of Medicare Part A and Part B, as well as additional services for the cost of the premium. Most of the additional services revolve around illness prevention and convenience such as gym memberships, fitness programs and mail-order pharmacy services. Medicare Advantage plans also make it easy to add services like dental and vision insurance.
Medicare Advantage plan options include:
- Health Maintenance Organization (HMO): This plan is a network system where care begins with a primary care doctor and arranged outwards to other providers as needed.
- Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): This plan allows you the option of picking and choosing your healthcare providers. Costs are usually higher outside of your network.
- Private-Fee-For-Services (PFFS): This plan is a mix of both HMO and PPO plan types. It can be more difficult to find providers that participate in PFFS.
